A little self-indulgence of the pampering kind is never wasted, particularly at this time of year. Tired feet and a frazzled mind can interfere with your enjoyment of this often crazy season, so now is the perfect time to invest in a self-care extravaganza!
We’ve put together the ultimate pampering session that will leave you feeling like you’ve been to a luxury spa. You can splurge with everything on the list, or just choose one or two and still reap the benefits!
I always find it more relaxing to start with a clean bathroom and decluttered surfaces so you can focus on your mini spa. Make sure everyone knows this is your time and that you need an hour or so on your own without interruptions.
Assemble what you need so you can enter your little haven fully prepared.

Treating your scalp and hair to an oil treatment will help relieve scalp itches and flakiness and leave your hair beautifully soft. It’s beneficial in other ways too - scalp massage can ease headaches and anxiety, boost circulation in the scalp and reduce muscle tension in the whole body.
Place the oil in a small bowl, dip in your fingers, and massage the oil all over your scalp. Massage for a good 5 minutes or more and while doing so, focus your mind on the sensation. Then use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to draw the oil down to the ends of your hair. Place your hair in a shower cap and cover with a towel to keep the oil warm. If you don’t want to use a shower cap you can use a non-precious towel that you don’t mind getting oily. Leave the oil in your hair for as long as possible, then thoroughly shampoo and condition as usual. Some people like to wash it out of their hair before getting into the bath so you can go straight from bath to bed (my idea of heaven!).
This simple facial involves a gentle cleanse and exfoliation followed by an Ayurvedic face massage. Performing the cleanse and exfoliation first will allow the oil to penetrate the skin more fully and deliver its nutrients more efficiently. The face massage will leave your skin glowing, improve the skin’s circulation and vibrancy, enhance muscle tone and reduce tension in the face.
If using our Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask, mix as usual with water to a smooth paste. If your skin tends to be dry, you can add 1 or 2 drops of your Mokosh Beauty Serum to gain an extra nourishing boost. If using the home-made mask, thoroughly blend the avocado, honey and oatmeal. Massage gently over the face, neck and décolletage. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes to let the antioxidants and other phytonutrients sink into your skin. Rinse away and dab with a towel, leaving some moisture on the skin.
Take 2 drops of your moisturiser of choice and perform the ‘5 minute Ayurvedic face lift’, following the instructions in our guide.
Performing a foot scrub and gentle massage is extremely beneficial not only to your hard-working feet, but also to your state of mind. They will look and feel cared for and you will receive an instant boost.
Mix all the ingredients together in your bowl and place a towel beneath your feet to catch any drips. You can scrub both feet at once, or one at a time - whichever is more comfortable. Starting with the big toe, massage the scrub slowly and mindfully all over nail, joints, top and bottom of each toe and work your way to your smallest toe. Massage the soles of the feet, paying special attention to the weight-bearing areas and the base of the heels. Gently massage the tops of the feet and ankles. When complete, rinse away the scrub in the bath or shower, being careful not to slip on your oily feet!
If you would like to do the full Ayurvedic foot massage, you will receive additional benefits. You can read how to do this here.
A long soak in a bath has to be the ultimate luxury. We have recommended adding oatmeal for its anti-inflammatory, soothing and moisturising properties - it is a key ingredient in our Facial Cleanser for a good reason. Epsom salts are magnesium sulphate, which can help soften and exfoliate the skin. Run the bath so that is pleasantly warm, but not over-hot. Slowly pour the epsom salts, oatmeal and Mokosh Sesame & Frankincense Body Oåil into the running water to help disperse it. Carefully step in and adjust the temperature if needed. Enjoy the sensation of your body floating, close your eyes and relax. Now is a good time to empty your mind and meditate, focus on your breathing and let go of everything. Alternatively, read something light and uplifting. Soak for 15 or 20 minutes.
A foot soak is almost as relaxing as a full bath, and brings some extra kindness to one of the most forgotten and hard-working parts of your body. Set your bowl in a place that allows you to sit comfortably for 15 minutes or so, and use this time to meditate or read.
Some people like to follow their bath with a quick shower to rinse off the salts, then apply a body moisturiser so that your skin is now completely pampered and taken care of.
Ideally, go straight to bed, or relax quietly to allow yourself to enjoy the full benefits of your session. And try not to leave it another 12 months before you do this again - you and everyone around you will benefit from a relaxed, pampered, cared for, you!
