Oily skin
Focus: Gentle cleanse, Re-balance, Protect
We believe the key to caring for oily skin is to treat it gently. We recommend avoiding soap, detergents and harsh scrubs on oily skin because they can damage the skin’s barrier and allow entry of the microorganisms. Thorough but gentle cleansing with our non-detergent cleansers will keep the skin clear of excess sebum, dirt and cellular debris while maintaining the skin’s acidic pH and barrier function. Oily skin will benefit from application of oils high in the omega-6 fatty acid, linoleic acid. This essential fatty acid is anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and can help normalise sebum.
Begin your cleanse with Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil which is rich in omega-6 fatty acids. It picks up excess sebum, dirt and pollutants, helps cleanse the pores and replenishes omega-6 fatty acids.
Follow with Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to complete a thorough double cleanse. This product is a wonderful tool for oily skin. It performs a micro-exfoliation which helps remove accumulated sebum, dirt and dead cells, reducing the risk of pore blockage. It also contains antioxidants and the water-soluble vitamins B and C that are beneficial to all skin types. It can also be applied as a spot treatment to pimples, and may be used 1 or 2 times per week as a mask for extra anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-boosting effects.
Pure Hydrosol Toner has a pH of around 5, which helps restore the skin’s acid mantle, a vital part of the skin’s barrier. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and can help calm inflamed skin. Spray onto the face after cleansing, and apply your moisturiser on top.
Omega-6 fatty acids are vital for the proper functioning of the skin’s barrier, and current thinking is that omega-6 fatty acids are deficient in oily skin. A poor barrier makes the skin more prone to invasion by microorganisms, leading to a host of problems. Your best choice is our lightest moisturiser, Elderberry & Chia Seed Beauty Serum, which is rich in both omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids A few drops applied to moist skin is sufficient to moisturise the face.
OUR RECOMMENDATION
EYE REGION
BODY
Combination skin
Gentle cleanse, Re-balance, Protect
This skin type has an oily T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) sometimes with large pores in these areas, and normal to dry skin on the cheeks. The skin may become sensitive, particularly when the skin’s barrier is damaged. If your skin is particularly sensitive, we suggest you refer to the ‘Sensitive Skin’ section below.
Cleansing with Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil is particularly important in the T zone, where the sebaceous glands are over-producing sebum that can be deficient in omega-6 fatty acids. This will help clear excess sebum, oil-soluble dirt and pollutants while replenishing omega-6 fatty acids.
Follow with a gentle cleanse and exfoliation using our Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to leave the skin free of dead skin cells and debris. This product will also boost antioxidants and water-soluble vitamins.
On the T zone where skin is oilier, choose our lightest moisturiser, Elderberry & Chia Seed Beauty Serum, to help replenish omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, keep inflammation at bay and boost antioxidants. In dry environments, during winter or with increasing age, a more protective moisturiser may be required, such as our Raspberry & Pomegranate Beauty Serum. For drier skin areas, one of our richer moisturisers may suit, particularly in cooler weather. Choose from Rich Face Cream, Light Face Cream or Pure Face & Body Cream. With age, some combination skins become more ‘normal’, so adapt your moisturiser as needed.
Normal
Cleanse, Nourish, Protect
For normal skin, the focus is to keep it well-nourished while protecting it from environmental stressors so that it is maintained in perfect condition for life.
Our Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil will cleanse the skin of oil-soluble dirt and pollutants, while delivering pro-vitamin A and E for extra nutrition. This can be followed with our Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to keep skin clean and free of built-up debris while delivering an antioxidant boost. Whether both cleansers are used daily, in alternation, or less frequently is up to the individual. Many people like to use the Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask daily, with the Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil only a few times per week. Others prefer it the other way around. Everyone’s skin is different and we encourage our customers to experiment and find what timing best suits their skin.
Our Pure Hydrosol Toner should be applied after cleansing. It has anti-inflammatory properties and a pH of around 5, which is ideal for restoring the skin’s acid mantle. It also makes the ideal aqueous base on which to apply our water-free moisturisers.
Your choice of moisturiser will depend on the season, your age, and the condition of your skin. For a light coverage, in humid conditions and when your skin does not need a lot of protection, our Raspberry & Pomegranate Beauty Serum is your best choice. When your skin needs something richer, or when the atmosphere is harsh and drying, one of our Face Creams ( Rich, Light or Pure Face & Body Cream) is the better choice. For an additional nourishing boost, you can layer our Raspberry & Pomegranate Beauty Serum or Elderberry & Chia Seed Beauty Serum under a Face Cream. Some prefer use the Raspberry & Pomegranate Beauty Serum during the day, and a Face Cream overnight.
Dry Skin
Gentle cleanse, Nourish, Protect
Dry skin frequently has poor barrier function and so it can easily become red and inflamed. Dry skin may be a natural state or may be due to overuse of soap or harsh cleansers, hormonal issues, dietary deficiencies or accelerated ageing from exposure to pollutants or UV light.
It is important to avoid detergent cleansers and harsh scrubs that damage the skin’s barrier function and increase the tendency towards dry, irritable skin. Our Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil will cleanse the skin of oil-soluble dirt and pollutants, while delivering pro-vitamin A and E to create a healthy glow. This is our gentlest cleanser and highly recommended for dry skin. It can be followed with our Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to keep skin clean and free of built-up debris while delivering an antioxidant boost. Most people with dry skin prefer to use Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil as their daily cleanser, with less frequent use of the Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to clear the skin of cellular debris. However everyone’s skin is different and we encourage our customers to experiment and find what timing best suits their skin.
Our Pure Hydrosol Toner should be applied after cleansing. It has anti-inflammatory properties and a pH of around 5, which is ideal for restoring the skin’s acid mantle. It also makes the ideal aqueous base on which to apply our water-free moisturisers.

Sensitive
Gentle cleanse, Nourish, Protect
People with sensitive skin tend to react readily to a wide range of skin care formulations. Although the most common culprits are synthetic ingredients and fragrances, any ingredient, no matter how natural, can cause a response. For this reason, we always suggest you start with samples of our products to ensure you don’t react to any of the ingredients. All our skin care products are free of preservatives and synthetic ingredients, which reduces the risk of sensitivity, but does not guarantee it.
To choose the right product, go to the product recommendations for your skin type, and choose the essential oil-free options. Start with samples or Mini sizes of these to make sure your skin is not reactive before buying a full size product.

Mature Skin
Gentle cleanse, Nourish, Protect
As we age our skin naturally becomes thinner and drier. This is mostly because of a gradual loss of collagen, elastin and matrix from the dermis, as well as reduced production of sebum. The focus is on protecting the skin with antioxidant-rich products that minimise damage to collagen, elastin and matrix, delivering cell-supporting nutrients, replenishing oils and keeping the skin barrier strong, supple and resilient.
Our Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil will cleanse the skin of oil-soluble dirt and pollutants, while delivering pro-vitamin A and E, both potent antioxidants. This is our gentlest cleanser and highly recommended for mature skin, especially if it tends to be dry. It can be followed with our Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to keep skin clean and free of built-up debris while delivering an antioxidant boost. Most people with mature skin prefer to use the Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil as their daily cleanser, with less frequent use of the Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask to clear the skin of cellular debris. However everyone’s skin is different and we encourage our customers to experiment and find what timing best suits their skin.

Acne Prone
Gentle cleanse, Re-balance, Protect
Acne is most common during adolescence and early adulthood, but it can continue throughout adulthood. You can read our blog describing how acne develops and our recommendations for acne here. Severe acne should be managed by a doctor or dermatologist to reduce the risk of scarring, and to manage any potential psychological effects of the condition. Here we describe how Mokosh products can help you manage acne.
Acne-prone skin will benefit from application of oils high in the omega-6 fatty acid, linoleic acid. This essential fatty acid is anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and helps normalise sebum. Our Makeup Remover & Cleansing Oil is rich in omega-6 fatty acids and as an oil cleanser brings many other benefits - it picks up excess sebum, dirt, and pollutants, helps cleanse the pores.
Our Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask is also a wonderful tool for acne-prone skin. It helps remove accumulated sebum, dirt and dead cells, reducing the risk of pore blockage. It also contains antioxidants and the water-soluble vitamins B and C that are beneficial to all skin types. It can also be applied as a spot treatment to pimples, and may be used daily as a cleanser, and 2-3 times per week as a mask for extra anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-boosting effects.
Our Pure Hydrosol Toner should be applied after cleansing. It has anti-inflammatory properties and a pH of around 5, which is ideal for restoring the skin’s acid mantle. It also makes the ideal aqueous base on which to apply our water-free moisturisers.
It is important to apply a moisturiser after cleansing to fortify the skin’s barrier function. For oily or combination skin start with Elderberry & Chia Seed Beauty Serum (rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids), our lightest moisturiser. For normal or dry skin, our Raspberry & Pomegranate Beauty Serum is your best choice. On occasions when your skin feels dry, application of one of the Face Creams will provide additional barrier protection and help calm the skin.
Pregnancy
Toxin-free, fragrance-free, essential oil-free skin care
During this special time, the focus is on minimising exposure to potential toxins, while caring for your changing body. Some ingredients in skin care can be absorbed through the skin, and of particular concern are the paraben preservatives which have known oestrogenic effects. Exposure to synthetic fragrances should also be avoided. Our skin care is free of preservatives and all synthetic ingredients, and made using 100% certified organic botanicals - we believe it’s the safest skin care on the planet. During pregnancy, some health professionals advise against exposure to essential oils, which are included in some of our products, so we recommend using our essential oil free range.
During pregnancy, go to the product recommendations for your skin type and choose the essential oil free options. Our essential oil free products include:
Babies 0-1 years
Gentle cleanse, Nourish, Protect
Newborn baby skin undergoes dramatic changes soon after birth, gradually adjusting pH and barrier function as it adapts to the outside world. The skin is more permeable, thinner and more delicate than the skin of a 1 year old, which means it is extremely important that products applied to the skin are carefully scrutinised. The skin’s microbiome is also being established, and products containing preservatives could disrupt this. We have written a blog about caring for newborn skin here.
For bathing, many health professionals recommend a short bath in water only, reserving soap or detergent to the nappy area. Our Fragrance Free Olive Oil Soap is mild for this purpose. After patting dry, we recommend applying a sparing amount of our Baby Massage Oil over the whole body and allow your baby to enjoy a gentle massage. Be sure not to over-apply or the baby’s skin will be slippery. For the nappy area, our Pure Body Balm is ideal to create a barrier. For any dry skin areas, or areas that need extra protection such as skin folds, our Pure Face & Body Cream is ideal.
Children 1+
Gentle cleanse, Nourish, Protect
Some young children are at risk of developing eczema, or skin inflammation, which is a complex condition that should be treated by a doctor or dermatologist. For young children, avoiding harsh detergents, limiting exposure to irritants, and preserving the skin’s microbiome are simple strategies to keep the skin healthy.
For bathing, minimal use of our Fragrance Free Olive Oil Soap is ideal. For moisturising, our Baby Massage Oil or our heavier and more protective Pure Face & Body Cream can be used. Our Pure Body Balm is useful for all ages, offering barrier protection and gentle soothing of minor irritations.
Babies and children should have limited exposure to essential oils for safety reasons. We have created a range of products that will care for your baby’s and child’s skin, free of preservatives and synthetic ingredients, and also free of essential oils and other fragrances.
