Focus on our Award-Winning Certified Organic Sesame & Frankincense Body Oil

One product that is much loved by our customers is our Sesame & Frankincense Body Oil. Feedback tells us that it is appreciated as much for its benefits to the senses as for its ability to take special care of the skin. It was formulated to include a range of the most nutritious certified organic botanical oils infused with a blend of two precious essential oils - frankincense and rose geranium. The result is an exotically fragranced, super-nourising and uplifting body treatment that will leave your skin feeling soft and supple, and your mind relaxed and calm.

We researched both Ayurveda and the latest science to develop what we believe to be the ultimate body treatment. Ayurveda teaches us that the path to health is to maintain balance in all three aspects of our lives - in body, mind and spirit. In Ayurveda, one of the cornerstones of taking care of our health is to perform daily abhyanga, or body massage, which we describe in our recent blog here. So we decided to formulate this product to maximise its benefits as a nourishing all-over body moisturiser, in addition to designing an oil to enhance the benefits of performing abhyanga.

In Ayurveda, it is considered that carrying out the body massage ritual daily will help alleviate stress, improve immune function, and revitalise and rejuvenate the body, leaving the skin toned and supple. To perform body massage daily may seem like a major commitment, but performing it even once a week will bring noticeable benefits. In today’s world where stress has negative impacts on the health of so many of us, it is a simple ritual that will enhance our wellbeing on many levels.

The Precious Ingredients

So why do we think our Sesame & Frankincense Body Oil is so special? Let’s look at each ingredient in detail:

Sesame seed oil - sesame seeds are native to India and east Africa, and the oil has been used for centuries in Ayurveda for healing massage. We use virgin organic sesame oil (not the toasted oil used in cooking) which has a light fragrance and high nutrient content. It has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties as well as antimicrobial effects, and is rich in vitamin E. It also contains abundant linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid that is very beneficial to all skin types for maintaining good barrier function, and also has anti-inflammatory effects. Sesame oil also has some UV-A and UV-B screening properties. In Ayurveda, sesame oil applied to the skin has a warming effect that calms nervous minds (soothing vata tendencies), and eases inflamed and arthritic joints. Studies have shown that it promotes the healing of burns and boosts skin regeneration.

Avocado oil - rich in vitamin E, b-carotene (pro-vitamin A), and contains the omega-6 fatty acid, linoleic acid, as well as oleic acid and anti-inflammatory sterols. It has been shown to speed wound healing.

Macadamia oil - rich in vitamin E, oleic acid, and anti-inflammatory compounds including squalene and sterols. It is well known for its ability to sink rapidly into the skin.

Hemp seed oil - derived from the seed of the hemp plant, this oil contains no psychotropic compounds, and so it is safe to consume and to use on the skin. It contains very high quantities of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are extremely important for skin health, in particular for skin barrier function and for their anti-inflammatory effects. It also contains good levels of vitamin E, and is thought to offer some UV protection.

Baobab oil - derived from the seed of the beautiful baobab tree, baobab oil is rich in the omega-6 fatty acid, linoleic acid. Baobab oil also contains significant proportions of palmitic acid and oleic acid, which contribute to formation of the skin’s barrier. In addition, baobab oil contains vitamins A and E, and is rich in anti-inflammatory sterols.

Black cumin seed oil - also known as ‘black seed oil’, is extracted from the seeds of Nigella sativa. It has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties, and science has shown that it possesses powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. More recently it has been shown to have some anti-cancer effects. It is rich in omega-6 fatty acids and anti-inflammatory sterols, as well as vitamin E. It has a lovely spicy fragrance which adds to the exotic aroma of our blend.

Frankincense essential oil - frankincense has been used for centuries for its medicinal benefits and for use in religious ceremonies. It can be taken into the body by inhalation, through the skin and in some cases is taken internally. Modern science suggests that it may reduce inflammation, helping to ease arthritic pain and improve mobility, and there is some evidence that it may also help asthma, possibly by the same anti-inflammatory mechanism. In aromatherapy it is thought to ease anxiety and reduce symptoms of depression. At the same time it is thought to help slow and deepen the breath, the ideal aid for promoting meditation. Some claim that it can help slow down signs of ageing by reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Rose geranium essential oil - obtained from a specially selected rose-scented variety of geranium, some sources claim that rose geranium essential oil has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects, as well as anti-microbial properties against bacteria, viruses and fungi. In aromatherapy it is thought to ease anxiety and depression, help stabilise mood swings related to hormonal changes, soothe pain and promote relaxation.

Award-Winning

Sesame & Frankincense Body Oil won 2 awards recently. It was the winner of the Australian Non-Toxic Beauty Award 2019 in the Body Skin Care category, and was voted Best Body Oil in the Healing Lifestyles Earth Day Beauty Awards 2020.

More Than Your Skin

At Mokosh, producing the cleanest, most effective products that will improve the health of your skin is our first priority. However when we create a product, we consider more than this.

We ensure we include only 100% certified organic ingredients to promote sustainable agriculture, and we have NASAA organic certification so you know we mean what we say. We choose bottles and jars made of glass, both to prevent leaching of chemicals from plastic into the product, and to minimise our plastic footprint, and we will sterilise and refill your returned jars so they have an extended life. Because all our closures must include plastic components, we have set up a return scheme and pay for all plastic returns to be fully recycled with Terracycle (read more here). All our labels are made of paper, once again to minimise our plastic footprint. We use fair trade ingredients where we can, and we run a Plant-A-Tree campaign. Our full range is certified palm oil free with Orangutan Alliance and is accredited Choose Cruelty Free.

We believe our planet’s greatest gift to us is the natural world. When we deliver the best part of the natural world to you in the form of our 100% certified organic skin care, we try to do so in a way that respects our planet and all forms of life that depend upon her. When you apply our products to your skin, we hope you take the opportunity to slow down and reconnect with the wonders of our amazing mother earth.
