“Nature is where the wisdom lies, and our society has lost touch with that. We are at a point in time when we need to strengthen our connection with nature, rather than move away from it. We definitely do not need synthetics in our food or our skincare.” — Marion O’Leary
Mokosh was founded by former medical scientist, veterinarian and pathologist Marion O’Leary, after she came to understand the potentially damaging health effects of traditional skincare formulations.
We’re here to demystify skin care
Rooted in the wisdom of science, nature and Ayurveda, Mokosh removes the non-essential from traditional skincare, bringing together the natural world’s most potent, healing botanicals in a simple, multipurpose range. Mokosh formulas are designed to deliver pure, concentrated nutrition to your skin, restore its natural balance and promote a return to its natural, radiant state.
Our skin is self-regulating
Good skin is simple. We know our bodies respond with health to a balanced, whole food diet — the same is true for our skin. Delivering the right nutrients, without the synthetics we’ve become accustomed to in skin care, will allow your skin to become truly healthy. Combining knowledge from modern science and ancient Ayurvedic traditions, our products tend to the root cause of skin imbalances, restoring the skin’s equilibrium so it can use its innate intelligence to take care of itself.
The problem with traditional skincare
Traditional skin care includes water in its formulations to dilute the oils that are responsible for moisturising our skin. The addition of water then requires the presence of skin-disrupting emulsifiers and preservatives to keep the formula stable. By removing water, Mokosh products need neither of these potentially harmful ingredients and are therefore enriched with higher doses of hydrating and healing botanicals.
Formulas that respect you and the natural world
Setting out to simplify skincare while respecting the natural world in the process, Mokosh is reshaping the industry. All ingredients are vetted for ethics and effectiveness before being packaged in refillable and recyclable glass. Passionate about restoring the integrity and truth behind skincare, Marion believes you don’t need a new product for each area of your face, that water is unnecessary in skin care, and that skin problems should be treated with formulas that restore its natural equilibrium.
We believe your skin type is not ‘fixed'. It changes with your diet, your hormonal state, the seasons, and your time of life. We believe that learning to tune into your skin’s changing needs is empowering. You will soon discover that a small number of well-formulated products is all you need for healthy, radiant skin. Head to Skin-Match to find what suits you at this unique moment in your life.
More Than Your Skin
In today’s fast-changing, consumer-based world, it has never been more important to be conscious of the humanitarian and environmental impact of what we consume. At Mokosh, we embrace the following:
FAIR TRADE INGREDIENTS
We use fair trade shea butter, cacao butter, coconut oil and coconut flour in our products. Buying fair trade means producers receive a higher price, ensure better working conditions, fair pay for women and children, and a higher chance of access to education.
PALM OIL FREE
No palm oil or palm oil derivatives have ever been used in Mokosh products. Mokosh is accredited Palm Oil Free with Palm Oil Investigations and certified palm oil free with Orangutan Alliance.
We donate regularly to social and environmental causes. Over the years we have supported The Orangutan Project, Amnesty International, The Red Cross and The Thin Green Line Foundation. Currently we are buying trees with Carbon Neutral to plant in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, and supporting One Girl, whose mission is to educate girls in Africa.
None of our products and none of our ingredients are tested on animals. Mokosh has cruelty free accreditation with Choose Cruelty Free.
Our products are packaged in recyclable glass and paper, and we are accepting jars for refill through our Container Return scheme. We will recycle your used lids, pumps and droppers through Terracycle at our own expense. Visit our Container Return page to find out how to return your empty packaging to us.
The heart of our operation lies in the beautiful port city of Fremantle in Western Australia, within the land of the Whadjuk Noongar people. We believe a strong and sustainable community is based on treating the land, its people, animals and plants with respect. Our community extends well beyond the borders of Fremantle, from the growers of our precious organic ingredients living all over the world, to our customers across the globe. These human connections make us grateful to be part of such a life-affirming network of people, while working with a broad range of healing botanical ingredients is a reminder of both the bounty and fragility of the natural world. We hope you feel a little bit of that wonder when you use Mokosh.
