Serum FAQS
Q: What is a serum?
Modern skin serums come in a variety of forms. In general, they are oil- or water-based liquids with a light ‘feel’, and are usually formulated to be rich in ‘actives’ that can easily penetrate the skin. Often, they target particular skin concerns, most commonly fine lines and hyper-pigmentation.

Q: Are Mokosh serums water or oil based?
Our serums are 100% oil.
We do this because it provides more value to you and your skin: our serums are not diluted with water, making them highly concentrated. The vast majority of serums on the market contain around 80% water. This dilutes the nutrients and requires skin-disruptive preservatives or emulsifiers to keep them stable.
The active ingredients in Mokosh serums are more stable because of the absence of water - they do not oxidise as rapidly, and therefore retain their activity for longer.

Q: When should I apply a serum?
Cleanse your skin, apply toner (optional), then take a few drops of serum and gently apply it to your face, under eye, and neck regions. Follow with a Mokosh cream when extra hydration is desired.
Q: I'm not sure what my skin type is, what serum should I use?
If you'd like to discover your skin type, try our Skin Type Quiz.
The other thing to keep in mind is that the recommended skin type for each serum is only a suggestion, a guide. All of our serums can be used by all skin types. Another way to think about it is to ask yourself how much hydration you want and what your skin goals are. You may be happy using a heavier serum or cream at night and prefer something lighter during the day.
Q: Can I use a serum as a standalone moisturiser?
Yes! All our serums provide "light" hydration when compared with face creams, which are far more occlusive. If you have oily skin or prefer something that absorbs quickly, serums can be used as your core moisturiser for day and night.
Q: Can I layer serums with creams?
Yes, all Beauty Serums can be layered with a Mokosh Face Cream when extra hydration is required.
Q: Can I use multiple Mokosh serums?
Yes, if you'd like to experience the benefits of multiple serums, we suggest using one during your morning routine and one at night.
Q: Will they irritate my sensitive skin?
All our serums are 100% certified organic, pure oil formulas that are "sensitive skin friendly" - this means they contain no synthetic fragrances or essential oils, as well as no preservatives or synthetics.
However, everyone's skin is different. We recommend starting with a sample size and conducting a patch test if you are prone to irritation. When in doubt, always consult your healthcare professional.
